Why is Rothschild banking group not as successful as Goldman and other global investment banking groups when they have the so-called richest family behind them?

Well you have to define success.

If you are running a three Michelin star restaurant with the world's best chefs, you are simply not going to make the money or get as big as McDonald's or Starbucks. Also it doesn't matter how rich you are, a family is not going to get the money that being a corporation will get you.

Now Goldman isn't quite McDonald's, but in order to grow, they've have to become a lot less exclusive and more corporate. You might not bank with Goldman-Sachs but your pension fund or Fortune 500 employer probably does. And this means that Goldman-Sachs isn't a exclusive top of the line restaurant, but rather maybe a really high end steakhouse chain. The Rothschild's want to remain super exclusive, which means they can't get that big.
