I live in Australia and this happens to me almost every week. The difference is that no one ever helped me. I have been ignored, screamed at and assaulted for being Asian. Even when it took place in broad daylight, on a busy street in one of the major cities here, no one cared. They just walked on and pretended they didn't see it. I try to avoid going out these days because of this. It really is detrimental to your mental health when people constantly remind you that you don't belong and you should "f off to your country". I am so touched to see these amazing people who stood up for him. They are really the best! It's so great to see more of the good side of humanity. It really gives me hope and I just wish there were more people like them in this world.

Where do you live if you don’t mind me asking? Sydney and Melbourne barely has the open racism now, just more subtle like ignoring you or glaring at you, or not wanting to be friends with you. The open racism and violence from the 90s is almost (not completely) gone now in the big cities.
as an asian that lives in sydney, racism is very very normalised here. even jokes w friends will include some hint of it n it can worsen depending on where u grow up. if u live in areas w a large asian community it’s less judgemental but places like the city or super old towns are bound to have idiots. it was especially bad during covid ppl would yell at u for js existing, simply standing at the bus stop, walking home, eating outside, n then ud go home n see all the racist media. it’s never ending. sydney is great in many different ways, ppl r usually quite okay or at least hide how they think but if you do encounter a loud racist like that, it’s good to call out on it (if you are safe to do so) chances r they won’t change who they r js from that interaction alone ppl js suck ass in general. otherwise pretend u didn’t hear it n walk away. if they follow u however ask for help from the ppl around u
