1913년 미국 뉴욕에서 세워졌으나 정식 법인화는 1914년에 한 기업이다. 2006년 허스트가 지분 50%를 인수했고, 2018년에 나머지 지분을 모두 인수해서 완전한 허스트의 자회사가 되었다.

피치 영업 확대에 따라 본사가 미국 뉴욕 영국 런던 두 곳에 위치해 있다. 무디스와 S&P가 세계 신용평가회사 점유율의 80% 이상을 차지하고 있고 피치는 13~17% 정도를 담당하고 있다. 그럼에도 무디스와 S&P이외의 신용평가회사들보다는 매우 크기 때문에 3대 신평사로 인정받는 중이다.

FIMALAC was created by Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière in 1991.[4] He serves as the CEO,[3] and holds 100% of the shares of the FIMALAC Group, that holds ~80% of FIMALAC.[5] It is headquartered in Paris.[1][2][3] It operates in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and other members of the European Union, Asia, and South America.[1]

In 2005, FIMALAC acquired Algorithmics Inc.,[6] which it sold to IBM in October 2011. That year, it acquired 40% of Groupe Lucien Barrière.[6]

In 2018, FIMALAC sold its last 20% of Fitch Ratings to Hearst Communications.[7]

In 1961, he started a teen magazine and sold it off a few years later.[2][3] He then worked for Suez, Masson, and Valeurs Actuelles.[2][3][6] He worked for L'Oréal for fifteen years, and was its CEO for a while.[2][3][4] He served as the Chairman of Duff & Phelps.[5] He is a member of the Board of Directors of Renault, L'Oréal, Gilbert Coullier Productions, Cassina, and Canal Plus.[2][3][5][10][11] He is Honorary Chairman of the Comité national des conseillers du commerce extérieur de la France (French National Committee of Foreign Trade Advisors), and a member of the Consultative Committee of Banque de France.[10] He is a former member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Group.[12]

In 2018, he was found guilty of misappropriating funds as part of the Fillon affair, an employment scandal involving Penelope Fillon, the wife of then French politician François Fillon.[13] He was sentenced to eight months in prison.
